Why wouldn't they hate the leader who more than tripled the gdp in his reign, made China a global superpower and built railways connecting most of the population together? Why would you care about democracy when every single part of your life is improving? Only arabs and nations below 90 iq fell for it, look at Libya they had a dictator but Ghaddafi had made his nation wealthy creating jobs for his infrastructure projects, free public healthcare, mass housing projects, free education, etc anything you could ask for and his people still killed him and now their country is in deep shit having slave auctions and gdp that has more than halves since Ghaddafi peak economy. In short, prosperity will always beat liberalism unless you're a nation with an IQ lower than 90 who can easily be subverted.
