This is at Khalifa University, stipend converts to roughly 2600 USD.

I don't know about abu dhabi, but in dubai the lowest price for a studio is around 4k AED a month. It goes to about 5k if you decide to share with 1 other person, or back to 4k if you share with 2. Either way, not worth imo.

Unless they're paying your rent, You won't live any much better than you do in mexico. Maybe you can get free food to bring home if you frequently sneak from those conferences.

The UAE are quite tolerant. Women are not required to have their faces covered. The official religion is Islam, but you can have your belief and the government is very tolerant. There is absolutely no tension between all the religions present in the city, and across the city you can find places of worship of almost all religions, except Jewish. When I came here, as Dubai is in the middle East, people thought that you would have to hide the fact that you're Christian: it's not the case, but proselytism is obviously prohibited.

During the Ramandan, all the restaurant are close during the day. There is a kind of pacific cohabitation, far away from the image that we give of Middle East. One more time, sorry if my expression in english isn't that good ! Between western and asian communities because there is a strong social difference between the european community and the pakistanese, philipino and indian one. The european are often doing highly paid job, while these others communities (in most of the case) are doing manual or low responsability jobs.

Don't worry about your english, It's good enough.
Thanks for the input. I do fasting as it has helped my health and overall well being. I suppose being a PhD student/ TA falls within the western jobs, maybe not high paying but certainly comfortable.

They want wealthy foreigners with capital, White people with experiences or IT asians willing to work for nothing. If you budget well, i'd say you should go, it won't be easy but it will be a new experience that might bring you some opportunities.

Yeah, it does sound good, I have saved over half of my monthly master's tuition already. It really interests me, my other option is France, I speak fluid french (B2) but, I am unsure of job opportunities there.

As far as America, I'm pretty sure it's really difficult for a mexican to get any kind of US goverment support, because of racial diversity and all that (i.e. they don't need any more mexicans kek).

You should definitely go to France, not only is it cheaper, it's also much better for a foreigner of modest financial state. I grew up in the uae, and i would choose Europe any day of the week.

Hmm interesting, Eiffel scolarship pays 1200 euros per month and virtually no tuiton for PhDs (380 euro per semester), though I suppose competition is higher.

That whole Sharia law thing doesn't scare me, if anything it seems to enforce a healthier lifestyle than the one I have. I'm more curious on job opportunities and student life.
