Are you going to be a TA or have other labor obligations?
If so what is the pay like?
Are you going to be doing a lot research unrelated to your dissertation?
Does your country's academia have so many PhDs that most of them are consigned to being a post-doc or an adjunct professor for several years?
Does you country's private sector hire a lot of PhDs or will it just make you "overqualified" in most cases?
The reason why I ask is because if you do have to TA and the pay is barely above minimum wage, if Academia jobs are scarce, or PhDs don't have much luck in the private sector, you're better off not doing it. You don't need to engage in a 4 or 5 year waste of your time to get out of a 2.5 year waste of your time.
