Scientifically speaking, why do we find some people's faces attractive and others not?

I look at some people and think their faces are ugly and I look at other people and their they are beautiful. In a strictly scientific sense, why? Is there a formula hard coded into our brains that tells us to find certain things attractive?

And fuck all that modern shit about "everyone is beautiful" - we all know what we're talking about here.
