If you have a ball that is rolling towards a block depending on both of their mass and the speed of the ball, the ball will either bounce off, move the block, or at high speeds break the block in half. This to me denotes the path of least resistance. I can see the argument that having a job is not the path of least resistance, but I think humans are too complicated for us to fully formulate the motions and paths they take and for simplicity and the sake of the arguments to follow we should stick to simple things.
