I'm reading a book that loosely explains the ideal learning process. It's called ultralearning, by scott young. here's some advice from the book that seem legit( but I havent tried yet)->
Solve problems
treat the book like a reference to fill in the gaps in your knowledge. You mainly learn by making projects/solving problem. So start with them first, even if you haven't read the chapter. If you arent able to solve the question look for hints in the text and, try to solve them taking those hints, in account. Basically make as much use of your brain as possible, and keep your reliance on books as low as you possibly can.
Also, Take tests and try to retrieve stuff from memory, without looking at the book.
It is also perfectly fine to skip on stuff that is too out of of your level, so that you can come back to it later, or stuff that is too elementary for you.
