There is no place where you can absolutely draw a line and say, things on this side are alive, things on this side are not.
Are viruses alive? What about virusoids? What about viroids? What about prions? What about self-assembling organic molecules? What about crystals?
Conventionally they are not considered alive but only because we decided they were not, and even then it's not universally agreed upon; some people will argue for non-cellular life or whatever. But the point is there is no fundamental different between one thing and the next, they're just different arrangements of atoms.
