If you have a cube with a volume of 10cm and a density of 10g/cm and a mass of 100g then if that cube were to contract by 10% then you would have a volume of 9cm and a density of 11g/cm and a mass of 99g. Why does the mass decrease by 1 gram? Am I thinking about this wrong, or is it the formula that is wrong?

You are using volume wrong.
If the side length contracts by 10% then the volume contracts by 27.1%.

mass = V*density = 100g

10% compression for length
length = 1.938991 cm
volume = 7.29 cm^3
density = 13.717421 g/(cm^3)

length = 2.080084 cm
volume = 9 cm^3

Can you please explain why it would be that? I'm not saying the side length decreases by 10% I'm saying the volume decreases by 10% due to contraction and hence the density increases because the mass has to go somewhere.

But this was a light cube and you have to use relative mass. But, seriously I don't get how you got 11.111111 g/(cm^3) when the density should increase by 10% this is just government and mathematician co op isnt it? That's why you can't get it to equal 100 huh?

density is indirectly proportional to volume.
