That said, I just did a little research, and there's some debate over whether there really is a difference in modern usage, plus people often substitute a solidus for an obelus simply because an obelus isn't on many keyboards. Seems like the best option is to simply write equations so there's no possible ambiguity, but then we'd miss out on all those threads arguing over the correct answer.
