>>12349793We cannot yet evaluate the effectiveness of this move, and it was likely at least partly due to public push and criticism. Their graph already looked pretty good IMO, after they lost all those elderly in the nursing homes. AFAIK the Swedes wanted it more strict measures, despite gov't waiting for more evidence to support it being the right move.
My question is, what IS the right move at this point? I've not yet come to a firm conclusion regarding the effectiveness of masks and lockdowns, but believe they are both socially unsustainable as long as a vaccine is not being rolled out at the same time. Hinging a plan on a hypothetical seems bad move. Barring some China style event that breaks the social instability. The simplest solution is obviously to let people govern themselves, but this comes at the cost of a lot of death, largely due to ignorance that the media forced on us by polarizing the topic, and entrenching beliefs on both sides.
I try not to have an opinion on this stuff as it's just divisive, even among my close friends. I try to remain detached, objective and skeptical (due to the complexity of the situation, so many variables) but my friends, who are not mathematically or logically inclined are all so entrenched that if I voice any opposition, right or left, I've created some friction in our relationship. They think I'm implying things or 'taking a side' when really I most often just try and paint a picture of how complex and inherently unknowable these things are. Unfortunately this concept is true for most topics these days.
>itsallsotiresome.pngLuckily I live in a rural area and work from home. I just put gloves and a mask on and wash frequently. Better safe than sorry but I don't believe in imposing rules on others without more clear evidence. We saw what happened with the Patriot Act.
