>>12337687Math is a rationalist puzzle that stems from an empirical observation of how reality and it's geometries work, and then exaggerates it deep into borderline schizophrenia. The issue appears when too many mathematicians push the boundary too fast and because there's not enough of them to peer review each other and to establish a rigorous foundation for this newfound area, most of it just passes through and new things then proceed to be built on top of it with the assumption that the foundations are all true because a handful of people "proved" them. But no one ever checks the foundations. We have issues at the very center of these foundations, like for an example division by zero or inability to point out what actually is or all the paradoxes that everyone is aware of. These are the core issues that invalidate the empirical model of math that the ancients were trying to build by coming up with the system itself, and turns it into a half-empirical half-rationalist one. What's their answer to this? "Uh bro, just like construct your own algebra that allows division by zero bro". Understandable as there would be a near-zero academic output if we refused to validate the rationalist side of it, so in order for this to keep itself relevant as a field it has come up with this rationalist game where PhDs can dump their excess time into for career points and pretend that they're doing "something". Ironically, all for the ultimate purpose of working as the number cruncher of an empirical organization utilizing the real applied math like some quant firm.
So tl;dr this is why most graduates want to kill themselves. They enter thinking that they're about to learn the Language of the Universe, but all they end up learning is the language of the ivory tower circlejerk.
