We already have, thing is oil prices are rigged by OPEC and trade embargoes on non-OPEC producers.
You really think Venezuela went broke overnight because "communism"? They nationalized oil production meaning US companies wouldn't get a cut, next thing they are trade sanctioned and can't sell their oil artificially reducing supply.

Oil was on government land, oil companies had a lease, ie. rented the land for a fixed amount of time.
The leases ran out, the companies got evicted, are you the victim of theft if your landlord doesn't renew your lease?

The price of oil was negative some time ago. Basically just speculators acting as middle men buy and sell oil without ever actually taking possession of it. When the covid hit and the market crashed they didn't have anywhere to physically put the oil so it was cheaper to pay someone to take it off their hands. This is just a less extreme version of what's been happening.
