You establish your Moon/ Mars base with robots. Why bother colonizing an uninhabitable rock with people? Who cares about the second lag to the moon, or 5-20 minutes with mars. Don't have to feed robots or provide them with an atmosphere. Makes things magnitudes cheaper.
So now you have got your low G exo bases. Now send probes to nearby stars. Robots dont care how long it takes. If you really want to, you could load up a self contained colony probes, which enters orbit of any habitable planet, and deposits a load of human embryos onto the surface, along with AI controlled robot helpers who build shit and take care of everything. Although by that stage having actual physical humans may be considered an entirely moot point.
Probably the best case scenario. The image of a galaxy filled with human diversity Star Trek style is a fantasy to placate the curious peasants.
