If you actually, genuinely want to contribute to science try to get into private research for business. It's not as glamorous but you will actually be contributing to science and not just playing academic politics and you could actually get payed well for your work.
If you still want to get into academia down the line (why the fuck would you want this though?), it will look good if you have a ton of real world work experience.
