Is (high functioning) autism real, or are they trying to pathologize anyone who goes against 'social norms' and has a proper attention span and interests/skills?

Nah autism is real, autists have a different neurochemistry I believe. I'm trying to remember what it was, but I believe it's noradrenaline? Or something along those lines, but it's a neruotransmitter and autists produce more of it in social situations hence they are socially anxious.
Plus autists have brains developed differently.
Your argument does have some merit, while autist brains differ from the general population, it's only society that views this as a problem.

Not the point. If I snapped your arm, would you need an x-ray to see that you had a snapped arm? What if you had an illness such as flu, would doctors have to take blood samples to see your illness?
No what they do is, is that they look at the symptoms. The symptoms of those different brains is presented as "autism" (e.g. social anxiety). Thus individuals can be diagnosed with autism.

That's in children, what I said applies to adults too.
Again I understand the label thing you're saying, but just because society has made the label doesn't mean it's wrong. Again lets use the flu example. When you have a flu you have a fever, muscle aches, runny nose and a sore throat. All of these symptoms when combined suggest you have a flu - hence there is a label that you have the flu. We don't say "oh well this person has a fever, muscle aches, runny nose and sore throat disease" we just use the label flu.
Same applies to autism

"In their head" things such as fevers don't happen because of thoughts, they happen due to release of cytokines and an actual immune response.
Also the flu has a set of symptoms, when it comes out of that set of symptoms then one can diagnose the individual with a different disease.

Your argumentation is pseudoscientific. Disregarding the societal impact of labels in general, that anyone labelled with autism, schizophrenia etc. is othered and discriminated against, you again try to justify the existence of one label by invoking another label that itself is only the description of a superficial manifestation of some kind. I could use this approach and argue for the existence of a brown-hair disorder since according to you it is a label just like autism or flu, ignoring the questions whether or not the label is socially constructed, has any predictive value nor is of any importance.

Of course the issue starts here. What is abnormal? Continuing from this, psychiatry has adopted the medical approach and considers these diagnoses to be indicators of actual disorders. "Your set of behavioral traits is a disorder, it makes you sick and you must be cured." That's where all the abuse starts from treating socially constructed diagnoses as actual medical disorders even if the underlying pathology or ethiology is completely unknown.

A minority of diagnosed autism, and even specifically 'h f a', actually have 'autism' or a significant set of such relative traits.
The majority are over(false)-diagnosed, over-prescribed. Threads such as this are a correlation (maybe even a part of) a general large push by pharma, media, etc... to create the propaganda that H.F.A. is a common occurrence...
Most ppl are about the same, most ppl should never take any medications on a regular basis... most ppl's health and mental health depend on environment, activity/exercise, nutrition (i left out the huge 'genetics', because 'most ppl' have 'normal' genetics)...
NPCs are told in the 3rd grade they have some rare condition, and take pills for it, and identify as a member of that social group, and go on reddit to repeat and internalize narrative propaganda w/ other 'afflicted' 'members'

Which is why religions supply it with a colorful assortment of punishments that result in the physical destruction of the person. Basically that is the only way psychopaths can sort of kind of function - a set of hard set rules (usually arbitrary, since psychopaths cannot tell what makes sense, so they accept what is given to them) which are enforced with brutal punishments. They still learn to find loopholes and hurt each other within the rules, and break them when noone is looking, but it limits the psychopath enough to prevent a complete social collapse. It still sucks though, there is no chance of any advancement towards something better, since any gains are wasted on mutual infights. It's a negative sum game society where a few can get better off only at the expense of pushing others down even more.
