Ph.D Thesis Writing Tips (Astronomy and Physics) Advice?

No.12333847 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hello /sci/,

I am a Ph.D Student studying astronomy, near the end of my journey. Is there anyone out there that can help me find a way to easily find the Ph.D Theses of people? One I would like to see is that of Carl Sagan, but I also would like to read the ones of the people that are on my Ph.D Thesis Committee. My advisor has the title listed, but I have been unable to find it because there was a time when typewritten theses were only printed in bound books. I know now it is easier to find a published Ph.D Thesis for a recent graduate, or in the age after typewritten works were scanned.

Also, can you give any advice (if you have gotten to this stage) on your last year in Graduate School, advice for looking for jobs (I really really really want to do a post-doc, but in the pandemic age, it is HARD to find one, especially with limited funding and closures!).

Also, asking for more advice, does anyone have recommendations or guides for preparing Thesis Defence slides? I would prefer to do an 'in-person' defence, but obviously in the post-pandemic world, it may not be an option. Hopefully by next Spring, it would be possible, but I know some people are or have done 'online Thesis defences'.

Please let me know and thanks in advance, from another curious and inquisitive /sci/entist!
