Is urban mobility in the future just kind of fucked?

2 big pretty divergent solutions have been proposed to solve car congestion but both are extremely flawed.

>Boring Company
Musk plans to take travel underground into tunnels but the tunnels dug so far are pitifully small. Tunnel boring is an extremely slow and expensive process that can take up to decades to complete rail lines. If it's ever pursued further, the company will be buried by land rights lawsuits.

>Flying taxis
Vehicles are being made by Hyundai, Bell and other companies to serve in Uber's air taxi fleet. Despite being electric, these vehicles have very short range, are still very loud and have dubious economics. The sound and danger of an aerial vehicle means they'll be relegated to city outskirts and will never be able to be used in the midst of cities.

These are the 2 BEST up and coming solutions for inter city human mobility and they're both starting to sound like failures. Is there any other solution?
