Colleges and industries have realized that online conferences are a helluva lot cheaper. They save on airfare, hotel, and food stipends for their employees that attend. Plus, their employees can stay in the office, and be productive while watching the conference.
Conference organizers save thousands by not having to prebook conference and hotel blocks, save months of labor planning logistics, and can post agendas to your phone, rather than printing them.

Do you really think they're ever going back to the old model?
