What is this cocaine amped scifi author trying to say? I can't tell if he's misunderstanding p53 or implying something much more than is apparent from those few words?

This is a dumb thread and you haven't provided any context. Maybe he looked up a list of genes and picked one at random to give his book a more science-y feeling. Maybe he misunderstood something he read once and included it in the book without checking it. Maybe you should post the title or the author's name next time.

Context:
Scifi book about the singularity. Author likes to throw these no-context non sequitur references (not technobabble) every other sentence to depict the frantic feel of the accelerating change of technology.

Ok, I'm inclined to think it just means overexpression of p53 through some gene hack of some unmentioned gene, or tp53. Don't know if that triggers some calorie restriction reaction that would be equivalent to eating less, but maybe they thought so in some early 2000s paper that I'm unable to find. I'm content with this. Thank you /sci/ for tolerating my bullshit for a moment.
