Brief brainlet discription:
Set theory looks at math in terms of the fundamental units.
Category looks at math in terms of transformations.
This is why trannies love category theory - It's a way of seeing math not in terms of fundamental platonic structures, but transient transformations between them being the "fundamental" object. Math because a thing that transforms rather than a study of eternal Platonic forms.
Basically it's cope.

People here say its useless, but they mean useless in the sense it just structures math. You should still try to learn it if you want to learn any form of graduate algebra, geometry or topology, since those ideas are usually described in categorical terms.

What are some applications for category theory? I know it seems meme-y but I can't imagine it was developed for no reason. There weren't that many trannies in the 50's

It serves as a foundation for any other mathematical discipline, and is strongly related to topology. The functional programming language Haskell uses some concepts from CT, like functors and monads
