Seriously how the fuck do I get a job in science without a PhD?

I recently graduated with a BS in a bio related major. I've applied to like 50 jobs over the past month and can't get a fucking interview.

What tips do you guys have? inb4 kys

I tried going to grad school this year but was denied from all the schools I applied to FeelsBadMan

It's actually not ag/eco related, moreso healthcare. I also have several years of research, and several published papers. So I do actually have some graduate level experience.

How bad are your letters of rec+undergrad GPA?
You may want to get a quick master's and ham it up, pretty easy to get into a GOOD master's even with a shitty record

Letters of rec were pretty strong, undergrad GPA was trash (~2.9). Yeah, I've been considering a masters. I would have just preferred PhD because I'm poor and can't really afford Masters right now.

yeah, like I said I tried this past year and got denied everywhere. So I'll be trying again this year but at soonest I would start in Aug 2021. So might as well apply for jobs until then

I think without some sort of "wonder-child"-esque CV, you'd have to do a masters to erase that GPA.

Else, shoot lower, and network with people on LinkedIn etc.

Took me 6 years as a seasonal bio tech with a BS in Wildlife Management to get a permanent job. Now I'm getting sent to Japan. Feels good man.

Every employer here wants to see transcript and grades. I think they use it as a filter.

It's like saying you can make a career by going into a casino and putting $20k from your credit cards on black every time you start getting low on cash.

It will work for one crazy person out of 100k who tries it and his story will be wild. But for the 99k other people it's an economic disaster.

Unless you have an exceptional GPA, OR both of those things are requested in addition to the application - I don't think it's normal to include GPA + transcript.

I typically just include Resumé + cover letter.

Any firm worth its salt will ask for transcripts and you're not going to be able to network your way into any name brand firm over linkedin. You have to get a Master's if you ever want the jobs you think you are worthy of. It will be expensive and you'll have to work in industry for a couple years to recoup, but you will come out the otherside much better than where you are now.

And you definitely have to get a Master's if you want a phd. Pretty much impossible to fall into this with your current stats.

To add onto this your GPA will come up one way or another, from requested transcripts or in an interview. The master's is your only way out of this, and if you do it you have to go all in.
I'm biased, but I was in a similar boat as you several years ago. Came out of undergrad with a shitty GPA, 3.0 flat, and couldn't land the prestige roles I wanted despite a pretty phenomenal resume + decent interviewing abilities. Master's erased my fuckups and set me relatively back to where I wanted to be just way behind on cash, which isn't the end of the world when you're taking 80k before tax + bonus to the bank.

Depending how much time you're willing to put in, you can switch after getting a matter's to a better school. You'll have to know the research of the professor and have a good argument of why you want to work with them and that will help, though switching schools may come at a cost to retaking qualifier exams
