ok sci, i will admit im a fucking retard on math, i suck at math i have to memorize/use normie tactics o get by, but today has just been the cream of the crop

why does 4(-1)^5 =-4?

why does -1(-1)^4 = -1?

I put them on mathlab, wolf alpha every single calculator i could think of, the closest thing to a half assed explanation i came up was that when the exponent is odd it remains positive, atleast thats how the computer picked it up. If this is a thing i obviously wasnt aware of it, if thats the case feel free to laugh.
