You can argue about religion with your imaginary advesary as much as you want, but it should be noted the record won't survive such a timescale. In the completely sanitised abstract sandbox of theory it most certainly could, however back in reality it is at best a symbollic gesture and is in no way any viable means of communication with extraterrestrial life. It is no different from dropping a coin in a well and then making a wish, except people try to pretend that it is for the sole reason that it was expensive to do.
