and yes, the 3d-printed instructions are available, but scaled to 3x because of the difference in tolerances between metal and plastic

They only existed for a tiny amount of time. Computation was expensive back then, but even digital computers kinda had this thing obsolete as soon as it was first made. It's a mechanical novelty, but really not that revolutionary.

The scale doesn't have anything to do with tolerances regarded metal v. plastic, it has to do with the current limits of printing v. machining.
