The best way to think about it is this: inside a box, put a lot of different gases at a lot of different temperatures. After some time, collisions between these gases will thermalize them and they will all end up at the same temperature. At this point, collisions between any two gas particles won't change the energy of either of them, which is basically like saying you can't exchange any information between them.
The universe is this box of gas. We're just reaching thermodynamic equilibrium.
