If anyone cheated, then that would be what they'd do. It's just subversion anyway though. Think about it; in 2016 we had perhaps the two worst candidates in US history. People didn't even show up to vote, and a higher proportion voted for a third party than have for a long time.
Now you've got the same guy, and a different guy, who's not much better, but there's more voters than ever now, and third party candidates are put back in their place.
What does this mean? People are more obsessed with politics than ever... Who else is obsessed with politics? Terrorists, extremists, etc. On both sides, people are becoming radicalized. You see now the right are starting to protest - something they almost never used to do - and the left are becoming more violent than ever - they used to just be hippies. The reason this is happening has nothing to do with who wins. It is to create instability in the country. When was the last time the country was so divided?
