It really wouldn't take you that long to study it. Just read through "book of proof" by richard hammack. It's literally free on his website. After you're done, you'll have a bunch of techniques in your toolkit that will make your studies of NT much more fruitful.
Every mathematician does this in college and they do it for a reason. Otherwise you'll be learning how to swim while you're learning to dive.
