Intergalactic stars

Can someone help me make sense of this scale? How can there be a trillion of them without them being considered to be in the same system? Why don't they call the virgocluster a "supergalaxy" or something?

Is there any sort of mental trick or something one can learn to help think about things on galactic scales? These numbers are all so huge IDK how to keep them together in my mind.
