You don't even understand what OP is suggesting. Energy storage requires input energy, because you plan on recovering it later. fuse two iron nuclei to make something heavy (input energy) and then fission the nucleus later on to release this energy.

Still a dumb idea, but at least it's physically sound.

Don't know th limits of fission but uranium is the best source if you want to split em in a self-sufficient manner

You can't store energy with fusion, OP, but you can use the fast neutrons from DT fusion initiate nuclear fission. The fusion reactors are the particle accelerator in the accelerator-driven subcritical reactor.

Yes, you don't gain energy by fusing the iron. That's the point, it's energy storage. You retrieve the energy later by splitting the fused tellerium you made with the iron.

everything after iron is only made during a fucking supernova, they can't even get a fusion reaction going on when the energy needed is ca 10E-14J per nucleus and the energy generated ca 10E-12 per nucleus. hypothetically one fusion can makes enough energy for 100 other fusions but they can't even do that
