Its almost 8:30 AM. You're approaching a busy subway station, just a minute walking away. The ride is 30 minutes to work and your shift starts at 9 AM.
A train comes every 10 minutes but you don't know at what times and you can't see the platform until you are physically there.
A train might be present the moment you arrive. A train might have just departed. A train might arrive soon at the station after you. You won't know until you reach the boarding platform.

Whether you rush to the station or not, the chance of arriving to work on time is still random because you can't influence the moment a train might come.

Therefor you can continue approaching the station at a normal pace. Running for a train you don't know you would miss otherwise, makes no sense. It would only make sense to run when you can see the train at the platform about to depart.
