I just did the classical IQ test by psychtests and got an abysmal score of 114. Now I have to re-evaluate whether I should study chemical engineering.

I know IQ doesn't matter that much but should I be worried, since the IQ needed for engineering is at least 120.

Does anyone know any midwit engineers?

If you have a triple digit IQ it is mostly about effort from then on. The question is whether you want to commit to studying for hours every day for years and abandon 4chan and other distractions.

You have to change. I was at a funeral to other day with family I hadn't seen for years, and none of them had changed. Same corny jokes, same personalities, it was embarrassing. People don't change much since they were teenagers because that is when neuroplasticity ends, but you need to change and your brain still has some neuroplasticity left. Learning a language for example kickstarts the process again as your brain struggles to form new memories. Change, grow up and so on, it is never bad once you get started on something. Also leave 4chan for 5 years.

Get solid Bs, a few As and maybe a few Cs, your employers wont care so long as you graduate and you won't end up in classes you hate wishing you were studying chem eng. or jumping off a bridge.

If you're not a complete pussy do the following. Go to some professor or someone in the field you respect or want to follow. Tell them that you're concerned you're not smart enough for the field. Ask them to test you somehow and tell them not to hold back as you genuinely want to know whether you're smart enough for it. Maybe they will give you a book to read through, or course notes, or whatever. Be as honest and upfront with them as possible. If it turns out you're good enough, that's great, go study it. If you're actually too dumb for it, that's also great, you know not to waste your time and money. Either outcome is good for you. That said, if being a chemical engineer is genuinely your dream I would not trust the opinions of just one person and would ask for a second opinion.

114 is plenty to do decent in chemical engineering courses. as another anon mentioned, you can get smarter or dumber depending on what you do with yourself and how often you use your brain, but you are not at a disadvantage by going into college with a 114 IQ. most of the people going for chemical engineering are kinda stupid.

this is testimonial but whenever i'm having a rough day at uni and come back to play a game of league i always play with shit but the opposite happens when i perform well in school. another way that i tested is playing games before going to school and whenever i had a really good game i would always have an easier time at school and vice versa, honestly it all matters on your mood. same thing happens with iq tests, if you take like 5 different iq tests when u had 5 different moods (bad, minimal, normal, good, exceptional) ur gonna see ur iq test fluctuate

I think a more fair methodology for evaluating oneself through league of legends - is the normal games mmr (match making ratting - goes up and down with victories/loses), because it's more laid off also chaotic but still the same game with same parameters - also more players go there so there's a larger test pool... in ranked mode people try-hard, apply tactics, are motivated to win.
So play 100+ games in normal mode trying your best, then check your mmr - the tools that can do that give you the distribution. Also ranked mode has many layers of obfuscation of the queue process, it's not as in your face.

IQ tests are shit at measuring the highest end of the intelligence spectrum. A person who makes a score of 120 can easily make 135 or 140 should they take the test again. IQ tests were invented to measure mental retardation and learning disabilities. It’s only an accurate measurement of stupidity and stops being precise once you breeze past 115 or so.

In league of legends your mmr starts at gold level - which is something like above 60% distribution, if you manage to maintain it you're normal and even if you go a little above towards 75% and above you're actually good/smart.
But if you manage to go lower.. and as a matter of fact if you look at the carts there's a bulk of players in the bottom 20 % mmr area and lower, I can only conclude that you're retarded in some way.

I made my case in the thread already why I believe that's more of an indicator than anything else.
Play a role other than the mechanically intensive marksman, support is easiest mechanically but third most impactful for the game so that's a test, alternatively mid lane or jungle.
I've heard of people in your situation, silvers - bronze people with phd's, masters and so on.
I can't speculate, tell more about yourself, did you play video games before?

Interesting. I got in a non elite engineering school so I had it easier but i guess that would place me at around 120. Still I knew someone who prepared for his high school diploma by playing non stop league of legends the preceding week and got better than me. In particular with the humanities part. Guess what this guy rode off his diploma barely working. Also led 200 people teams in mmos when he was 15. Can improvise oral presentations inventing bullshit events in real time and the teacher doesnt notice. Now already leading interns. I bet he would score a nice 130 iq.

You can increase IQ, and you're right that it doesn't matter as much as people say.
Chemistry is largely pattern recognition and memorising rules though, isn't it? I'm not a chemist.
I worry about my 122 IQ sometimes in comp-sci but I don't think we should, we'll be fine anon. That won't stop me though, personally. I just try to keep my brain active, learn new things and challenge your brain.
