Sad but true. I think they distinguished themselves at one point, but part of the nihilism of modern physics is that there is no underlying physical (mechanical) explanation for anything, so has indeed just become proxy a proxy for mathematics. I wonder if the influence of women is to blame. Since women are better with words than with pictures, physics becoming "inclusive" would necessitate shifting emphasis away from visual understanding.

There is no floor, and physics would be wise to just accept this instead of trying to find a new one constantly.
Accept that it is making one up.
Accept that we are part of the deterministic creation of reality, and that determinism changes relative to our feelings and understandings.

Physics needs to break down a lot of its empiricism, and that's where critical theory ("feminine thinking") comes into play.
Plenty of the quantum realm should make it obvious that we are part of making this up. Maybe all of it.
Feminine principle is much better at the surreal and the subjective. Physics is going to get even more strenuous for autists.
