>>12292076Traditional vaccines would work seasonally and for this virus and once you've got one vaccine figured out safely, others are easier and quicker to produce like the seasonal flu vaccine.
The bigger issue you have right now is there are about a dozen different strains competing per gisaid data, and international trade is spreading them. For whatever reason, and nobody knows why, the dominant continental strains keep the others from gaining root and a lot of that is likely genetic. You eradicate one strain and you've got 10 competitors happy to come in and reinfect the population, so you need to create a vaccine for all dozen of them. This thing has gone from one strain to a dozen within months, so your vaccination infrastructure needs to be able to react faster than it can mutate. Theoretically, once you slow down the spread you slow down the rate of mutation which makes the vaccine last longer. US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, I'd say we're set. Russia, EU and China, Maybe. Other countries, GL\HF. Brazil\India has huge problems.
One thing to keep in mind is that politicians have a duty to keep the public from panicing, so they'll say a lot of things that might not be fully true. A lot of people think wearing masks is BS and this virus is a hoax and a lot of that is because people have fully lost faith in the MSM. /k/ has gas mask threads which are popular, pick one up and go shopping with that. I get compliments\questions and looks of abject horror for wearing mine.
What's really close to the truth is nobody really has the studies or research to proove any one point out and we're, as a species, winging it on this one. IMO we're doing a pretty good job of it.
