Read this earlier today I didn't really get all of it straight off but I'll re-read it, personally, I would prefer to know the absolute limit of information a single particle, HR or whatever can carry, conservation never really bothered me. Good to hear they made progress though.

Somebody should focus on quantum entanglement particles being shot into event horizon, that would be wonderful source of time.

Why does it have to be conserved?
What's the issue for information in black holes?
Is Hawking radiation even real in the first place?

Can someone shed any light in these?
Why is it necessary that information is preserved? They say it must be due to quantum mechanics (I guess they're talking about CPT?), but there's entropy, so information should actually vanish, right? If I let a car explode there's no information about what the car looked like before. Why is this a problem for black holes?
Hawking radiation gets stronger with decreasing black hole size, right? What is the process behind large black holes evaporating and spitting out mass again in the end?
How do they know entanglement isn't destroyed? Is it an assumption they made or part of their result?

from my understanding, information here refers to conservation laws making statements about the type and number of particles before and after a physical process. black holes fuck shit up because matter goes in, but Hawking radiation is the result of unrelated virtual particle-antiparticle pairs forming on the event horizon such that one escapes and the other falls in, allowing black holes to radiate. once the black hole evaporates, nothing is left except pile of conservation law violations and all the random particles that boiled off the hole.
