things close to the mirror appear close in the reflection, things further away appear further away in the reflection.
up/down left/right is arbitrary b/c you can change your position relative to the mirror.

When 2 people are facing each other, one has rotated 180 degrees relative to the other about the axis pointing out of the top of their head. The mirror doesn't rotate shit. That's why it looks different. The reason it only reverses one direction is that when you face someone you only turn about that one axis, which reverses your left/right but not your up/down.

Sort of, basically what is happening is the light rays going in to the mirror travel an infinite distance before they can turn around and travel back to your eyes. So even though to you the reflection appears instantly. To the light it's been travelling so long it got bored and decided to turn around. It does this because turning around is faster than turning up side down and it is in a hurry.
