Is String Theory the key to unifying quantum theory and gravity, a theory of everything
or a theoretical deadend that merely allows particle theorists to pump out papers?

It's worse than that. Our mathematics (and the axioms on which it is based) arose as a symbolic framework to describe the "meso" world humans inhabit.
But, just like everything in our meso world, including us and our minds, are the emergent products of the interactions of simpler building blocks, so is our math likely to be an emergent subset of a deeper, more fundamental math which our minds aren't evolved to comprehend.

No. Everything i've analyzed say the most likely theory is we don't exist. Nothing in the universe would be logical even from a simulation standpoint. Like why would you start a simulation where all the planets are so far away?
