I'm taking a quantum physics course and I'm making my way through the math and its great and all but my question is.... how the fuck is this bullshit actually real? Like ok I followed along with the math and yeah particles have a chance of tunneling through the barrier amazing but then the textbook just offhandedly remarks that the equation actually applies to real life and tunneling is a thing that needs to be accounted for in wires etc. But ??? why the fuck does this happen. I feel like I'm missing something, like quantum mechanics feels like random magic math that just happens to work in reality somehow.
