I know this is possible by the pigeonhole principle, because the domain of is smaller than its range. But that doesn't help me solve the problem. I have to think pretty hard about , do a bit of trial-and-error, and sort of fail my way to an answer. That has almost nothing to do with what I know, but intuition helps a lot.
