Just thinking about starting something, perhaps a civilian military program for selective breeding. I need a full pros and cons assessment. What scientific evidence if any points towards this being a good or bad thing?

I mean I hear things like this are immoral but why? What possible thing could outweigh the advancement of mankind to greater heights? It's perplexing to discard possible tremendous advantages for some weird and quirky sense of moral and immoral.
