What is the radiation that evaporates from a blackhole?

Is it matter from within the blackhole? How exactly does it "evaporate"? Is it escaping the blackhole? Does it not just get sucked back into the blackhole?

Just outside the EH, part of the gravity field's energy turns into two virtual particles.
They take away 2 units of energy from the gravity field i.e. the black hole.
One of the particles escapes while the other falls in. End result is the gravity field weakening by 1 energy unit.
Weaker field = smaller BH.

The radiation from a black hole is just regular heat.

It results from weird vacuum quantum particle effects, where the anti-particle gets sucked into the black hole and annihilates a tiny amount of mass, and the regular particle does not get sucked in.

Hypothetically you could use very small black holes as energy storage, as a very small black hole emits huge amounts of energy while a large one emits miniscule amounts of energy.
