control engineering is based but I have the feeling that they don't teach you the actual practical stuff at school.

To master RF tech you need to understand a lot about DSP (digital signal processing) which is quite applicable also to control engineering.

The reason I’m asking is because I can fit one of these classes in my schedule. I’ve got a background in DSP and digital design, and RF and controls both seemed like really cool classes to take, but I know very little about them and I can only take one.

I really liked my controls class. I am EE but have no focused track so I had to do a little of everything (DSP, Analog sig processing, Controls, FPGA, etc)

Controls was interesting, finding criteria for instability and designing around that. Had a project to minimize instability in a given system and it was highly interesting.

RF: higher frequencies, focus on modulation and (weak) signal recovery, channel estimation.
Control: lower frequency sampling (usually) , focus on feedback for control, response and optimisation
Common: (digital) signal processing, signal recovery, estimations
