For some podcasts, I think it's relevant. Some of Eric Weinstein's and Lex Fridman's podcasts are far more information-dense and high-level than a lot of university lectures.

I think you'll be fine. He explains everything in simple terms. I recommend listening to round 2 with him, as well. Seems like a really awesome dude.

that is less impressive than it sounds when you realize that the proportion of stem is a tiny minority in universities.

Yeah, I shouldn't have used "university lectures" as an example. There are just some really good podcast episodes out there, and some are hard to follow if you don't have some starting info.

They're an extremely tiny minority of all podcast episodes, but they exist. Manolis Kellis's don't require much background knowledge but they're examples of really good ones.
