Say for instance Q = (6-2)^2 + (7-4)^2 or 25 or (16,9) when you could just say the distance is just (6 - 7,2 - 4) or (-1,-2) and have an answer that better describes the distance between a points coordinates in direct reference to what a figures boundaries specified coordinate is what amount away
