At best, you can construct a mathematical model to explain perfectly the reality. But you will never know if your mathematical model explain the reality "as it is", or if it just work by serendipity.
Like gravity... is it a force? Or is it a curvature of space-time?
Philosophically speaking, we are living in a scientist time. Were we believe reality can be better approach be scientifically and abstract concept (I a way, an extension of Platon philosophy).
But for true, the direct approach we have of reality is through our senses... and this escape scientific theories.
