DIY rocket science

How realistic would it be to build a DIY rocket that puts a microsat in orbit in 2020? How much time and resources would one need to achieve this? Would it be possible with off-the-shelf parts and basic machinery found in a metal workshop?

These guys are probably going to be the first amateurs to get orbit, they have been going for 12 years have decent financial backing and a team of engineers.
Realistically a sounding rocket that passes the karman line could be done by a single person with skills, knowledge and ~$20k. Orbit on the otherhand just isn't viable for a one man team.

The main problem with getting to orbit isnt the height but the fact you need to get the payload to thousands of mph to have a stable orbit. This results in you needing literal tons of fuel to even get a microsat into leo.

It would be extremely difficult, a lifetime of work for a single man. Suborbital flight is a possibly however, and might be a realistic prospect with enough cash.

You can hardly find (make) efficient fuel and a decent propulsion system to reach orbit all by yourself. There's a reason it takes space agencies millions to develop rockets and build them.

this is so wrong, the best amateur made rocket barely reached 200k feet and you're suggesting you can make one that reaches orbit? stop talking out of your ass, you have dunning kruger effect
