WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?

I didn't find out until later in life. As a kid I used to lie awake at nights wondering about the nature of the universe, existence, life, consciousness. One of the ways I was "evaluating" consciousness was looking at history, how similar/different people were in different times and environments.

So, I went into archaeology after highschool, but I didn't find out until later how much more interested I was in consciousness as a phenomenon rather than culture and humans. I switched to neuroscience and now evolutionary neuroscience. Fucking love this shit, can't imagine myself occupying myself with anything else, even though I've got so much to catch up on, years I've wasted on archaeology.

My focus now is on sensory processing, specifically visual processing and the relationship between sensory input, brain processing of input and the conscious experience of that input. I also study psychedelics and their effects on cognition, also in a very practical therapeutic sense, not just theoretical consciousness studies and pharmacology. I wish I knew more about physics and quantum mechanics so I could get a better grip on what the phenomenon of consciousness might potentially be in relation to the brain.
