Is anyone with >1-2 years gap in their HS>BS>MS>PHD>POSTDOC

Completely barred from ever becoming a professor?

99% of professors who's CV's I've seen have 0 gaps between any of their education into professor.

Also the research supports these people having 20-40% lower IQ than their peers with only 1-2 years break or none, particularly for long gaps in the earlier stages.

In the UK where science was invented,

they checked the IQ of people at different levels of education and for those with gaps or starting later and found markedly lower iqs

google scholar something like mature student iq or age at degree completion IQ

the government carried out the research IIRC

it’s convincing, but remember that Einstein was not in academia when he originally submitted his idea for the Theory of Relativity. We throw around IQ as if it’s conclusively the metric for intelligence. In fact, if you look into the research of IQ, you realize that it was originally meant to test if a child was mentally retarded and the same form of the original test is widely used.

People serious about analyzing intelligence want to create a better way of measuring intelligence but we have to first stop being so attached to IQ.

You can take a significant break and still be brought back into academia as a professor. If you’re looking for an impeccable resume where you literally sacrifice everything in your life just to be a professor, then yes, don’t take a break ever.

Off the top of my head, I know at least 1 well-cited professor CS theory prof who spent four years in between their undergraduate and graduate degree for military service, one who took 3 years off between undergrad and grad school to work in industry this one was in applied math, one who spent like 2.5 years or something after their masters teaching calculus to undergrads fulltime before going back for their Ph.D. in Engineering, and one who after his Ph.D. spent like a decade working in industry before getting a university job. All of these are anecdotal obviously, but to me it seems that doing good work is likely more important than for getting an academic job then the exact path you took. That said, there are some biases in the hiring process, if you are too old some places won't consdier you if you aren't already an established academic at that point.
