The universe tends towards the entropic maximum but it doesn't want to reach it. Preventing it is out of the question because it is physically impossible to do so.
So what the Universe has done, or rather has naturally tended towards, is the local prevention of it which is physically possible and is the best thing available within these conditions. You can drop entropy within your closed system by shitting up the environment around you with the waste heat. In order to create such a closed system, and in order for it to operate on this principle of self-interest, Life is required. In order for it to maximize the interests and preservation of the self, of that local closed system, the Life must also posses consciousness and that consciousness must also possess the delusional identity of "I am me and not the other stuff around me". Only by believing that sentence will the closed system of the conscious Life actually try to drop its local entropy at the expense of the environment, which is precisely the point. Every living form gets rewarded by growth, in size and numbers, when it successfully completes that goal. The Universe subsidizes this positive reinforcement so its safe to say that that's the point, that's the ultimate goal of life and existence. Trying to delay the growth through anti-individualist ideologies is antithetical to this subsidized goal and sooner or later you will drop out from the race as the Universe will favor and reward the ones who do not restrict their growth and very psychopathically shit up the environment around them, for nothing else but their own gain. Because that's the point.
