because they just want to do research, teaching is an annoyance to them.
they also get hired for their prestige, which guess what again comes from research not teaching qualifications

in my uni you have no education and pedagogy prerequisite to be a uni teacher except being a PhD in your chosen field and with a shortage of people actually willing to be professors you basically dont get to pick and use whatever you get
