The counterclaim you hear to this is, "Oh, well they didn't go to the right school and get the right grades and connections." If being successful in your field requires getting a 4.0 at Yale and jerking off someone in a coffin, then maybe its not the degree that matters.
Doctors are the only classic UMC job that still pays as long as you specialize. You can still go to a generic medical school and have a good career.
Engineers are the only other career you see on there that can claim the same thing, although not to the same degree. Even this field is dying though.
